The Breezaire WKL 4000 Wine Cellar Cooling Unit is a self-contained, through-the-wall cooling system designed for properly insulated wine cellars up to 1,000 cubic feet. With 4,000 BTU of cooling capacity and integrated electronic controls, the WKL 4000 is designed for larger residential wine cellar and wine storage applications.
The self-contained design combines the cooling components within a single cabinet, eliminating the need for a separate remote condenser and field-installed refrigerant lines. The standard configuration exhausts warm condenser air through the rear of the unit into an appropriately ventilated adjacent space.
Key Features
- Designed for cellars up to 1,000 cubic feet: Intended for properly insulated and sealed wine storage spaces within the manufacturer's recommended capacity.
- 4,000 BTU cooling capacity: Provides cooling capacity for larger residential wine cellar applications.
- Self-contained system: Cooling components are integrated into one cabinet for through-the-wall installation.
- Through-the-wall installation: Designed for installation through a properly prepared wall opening.
- Sentry III+ electronic controls: Provides digital temperature monitoring and adjustable settings.
- 48°F–63°F temperature range: Provides an adjustable operating range for wine cellar applications.
- Automatic humidity management: The cooling process helps manage moisture within the cellar environment.
- Automatic defrost: Helps manage frost accumulation during operation.
- Rear exhaust: Standard configuration directs warm condenser air out through the rear of the unit.
Designed for Larger Wine Cellars
The WKL 4000 is rated for wine cellars up to 1,000 cubic feet when the enclosure meets the manufacturer's construction and installation requirements. Actual cooling requirements can vary depending on insulation, vapor sealing, glass exposure, sunlight, ambient temperature, door usage, and other heat loads.
For cellars approaching the maximum recommended capacity, proper sizing should be confirmed based on the specific construction and environmental conditions.
Sentry III+ Digital Temperature Control
The integrated Sentry III+ electronic control system provides digital temperature monitoring and adjustable settings. The LED display allows the cellar temperature to be monitored directly from the cooling unit.
The control system also incorporates protective functions designed to help manage operating conditions, including features related to power interruptions and restricted airflow.
Self-Contained Through-the-Wall Design
The WKL 4000 is designed as a self-contained cooling unit that installs through a suitable wall opening. This configuration does not require a separate remote condenser or field-installed refrigerant lines.
The condenser side releases warm air into the adjacent room. Adequate ventilation and sufficient clearance are therefore important to prevent warm exhaust air from recirculating into the cooling system.
Installation Requirements
- The wine cellar should be properly insulated and sealed.
- A suitable vapor barrier should be incorporated into the cellar construction.
- A properly prepared wall opening is required.
- The warm-air exhaust must discharge into an appropriate adjacent space.
- The exhaust area should provide adequate ventilation.
- Required clearances around the cooling unit must be maintained.
- A suitable 115V electrical connection is required.
The manufacturer recommends that the adjacent exhaust space be adequately sized and ventilated. Review the installation instructions and site requirements before installation.
Factory Modifications and Options
The WKL 4000 is available with several factory modification options for installations with specific routing requirements. Modified units are special orders and may have additional production lead times and different return or cancellation conditions.
- Hot Air Out the Top (HAU): Routes condenser exhaust from the top rather than the standard rear configuration.
- Cord Out the Back (COB): Routes the power cord from the rear of the unit.
- Cold Air Out the Top (CAT): Provides an alternate cold-air routing configuration.
- Rear Drain Fitting (RDF): Provides a rear fitting for condensate drainage.
- Black Series: Special-order configuration featuring an aluminum cabinet with a black finish.
Confirm the desired factory configuration before ordering, as modified units are special orders and may not be eligible for cancellation or return after manufacturing.
Optional Breezaire Bottle Probe
An optional Breezaire Bottle Probe is available for compatible systems. The accessory is designed to monitor the temperature of the wine bottle rather than relying only on the surrounding cellar air temperature.

Care and Maintenance
Keep the unit's air intake and exhaust areas clear of dust, debris, and other obstructions. Periodically inspect the surrounding installation area to make sure adequate airflow and ventilation remain available.
Maintaining proper cellar insulation, sealing, and vapor-barrier conditions is also important for the cooling system to operate under the intended conditions. Follow the manufacturer's installation and maintenance instructions for additional service requirements.
Important Sizing Note
The stated capacity of up to 1,000 cubic feet assumes a properly constructed wine cellar and suitable operating conditions. Cellars with extensive glass exposure, direct sunlight, high surrounding temperatures, frequent door openings, or inadequate insulation may require additional cooling capacity.
Before ordering, verify the cellar volume, construction, ambient conditions, electrical requirements, wall-opening dimensions, and available exhaust space to determine whether the WKL 4000 is appropriate for the installation.
